Amends…
Teabini is about to give birth any day to a litter of #britishshorthair kittens.
And here is how I come to explain an #amends made to @syd2
It may surprise some that we are cat breeders. After years of fostering, adopting and caring for unwanted cats, my daughter’s latest count puts us at 56 in total, that we would become breeders of fancy cats.
It started with my daughter’s obsession in finding an orange tabby cat at the age of three. Driving down roads she would cry turn there Mommy I know there is and orange tabby that needs a home. Driving by a corn field she exclaimed I know there is an orange tabby who wants needs us.
When she was old enough to answer the question what do you want to be when you grow up it was clear cat breeder was heads and tails above cake decorator.
Her dad is a veterinarian and neither of had been brought up to value pets. We kind of winked at each other like, yeah right just what the world needs more cats. We were in the business of spaying and neutering and managing all the unwanted cats.
When my daughter reached her teens it was clear she would pursue the arts in all forms - sewing, acting, crafts, piano and painting. It was then I realized that maybe I shouldn’t have shamed my daughters about her desire as a child. I wanted to make amends and shared that I was now fully aware that there are people who breed cats, there are people who buy them and they bring endless joy. We discussed this being her job for high school.
Several cats later we are now about to deliver a new litter already spoken for by those who love our cats so much their friends are asking for them.
